Level 1 Questions, Myths & Legends
• Q Why has the GNAS scrapped the existing Coach Training Scheme before the new scheme has been completed?
• A
The existing scheme has not been scrapped only the Assistant Coach
grade has been discontinued. All other grades will continue until level
2/ 3 etc are introduced. The Coach grade will Probably be discontinued
Jan 2006.
• Q Why
do we need to have people trained to tutor and assess Level I courses,
when some of us have been tutoring on Coach courses for years?
• A
The Endorsement process for the UKCC requires that "A programme of
training and/or licensing of COACH EDUCATORS & ASSESSORS at each
level of qualification is provided" Additionally the format &
assessment process for the new levels is very different to our existing
programme.
• Q Why is it that other sports ‘Basketball’ for
instance have much lower course requirement. and shorter courses at level I than Archery?
• A
Many sports have always used the terms level 1 / 2 etc for their coach
qualifications. When you make comparisons you must compare like with
like and look for the reference to UKCC. Where you find this you Will
see that the generic course content is identical. However the sport
specific areas wiIl naturally create differences in course lengths. But
there are minimum Course Hours laid down at each level.
• Q Will all Level I candidates have to take a ‘First Aid’ course before they quality at level 1?
• A
No there are some very basic Health & Safety requirements in level
1, these are covered on the course. Currently we do not have any plans
to have GNAS Coaches ‘First Aid’ trained.
• Q Will the existing Coach grade he automatically re-graded to Level 2?
• A
No, in just the same way as the old Assistant Coach grade was required
to up-date to level 1. Then the same will apply to Coach to level 1,
where an up-date programme will be produced.
